Out of the 61.8 million occupied households with people over the age of 45, nearly 51.6 million are two-person or one-person households. These are the households that have an elderly married couple or a single elderly person.
Within the 51.6 million households, nearly 19.45 million households are people that are over 65 years of age who require continuous or intermittent monitoring to check on their well being.
