The most distinctive aspect of the VoCare management team is the wide variety yet relative experience, knowledge and background each person brings to the organization. Team members have demonstrated success in starting businesses, developing leading technologies, launching new products and building successful organizations.
Steve Peabody
CEO and President
Peabody is the Founder, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of VoCare, Inc. He is known for his entrepreneurial stewardship in product development as well as his remarkable business savvy in the success of CMI – the engineering firm he acquired in 1992. Through the continuing use of new technology to streamline processes and develop new products, Peabody not only ensured that each new business opportunity succeeded as a spin-off company, but that it also was a success as one of the best in its respective field.
Peabody and CMI have developed several hundred products for various Fortune 500 companies totaling over $250 million in revenue. Peabody has been singularly responsible for this achievement. He has also been personally involved in the product audits and certifications in the fields of: FCC; FDA; ICC; UL; ASTM; AGA; CGA; ICC; ISO9001; and TS9000.
Peabody used his vision combined with his management skill to build executive teams to turn product ideas from start-ups to dynamic growth companies. During his 17 years of leadership at CMI, Peabody exploited the full potential of international resources to substantially increase the capabilities of CMI as a product development company. Peabody designed, engineered, manufactured and marketed several proprietary products to a variety of industries and has received numerous awards. Peabody currently holds 17 U.S. patents under his name for a variety of products and exclusive designs.
Peabody streamlined the company, by holding all the intellectual property and outsourcing manufacturing and other services, to transition easily into niche markets with new product ideas and keeping development at greatly reduced costs. Peabody has established and still maintains numerous business relationships with a variety of high tech domestic and international manufacturers.
Peabody is considered an authority on product development and has substantial expertise with supply chain management, including offshore manufacturing. He has spoken on many occasions at a variety of U.S and Asian professional events. He holds a mechanical license in the state of Indiana and is a member of The Society of Mechanical Engineers.
VoCare is unique inasmuch as it is the only CMI spin-off company that Peabody has committed to lead in the capacity of its CEO.
Bill Thommen
Chief Marketing Officer
Bill has over 25 years of successful experience in sales and sales management with healthcare market software companies targeting hospitals and physicians. Bill’s customers have included a cross-section of healthcare institutions, ranging from the industry’s largest healthcare networks to small rural hospitals and medical practices. His forte has been his success at selling to the C-suite and top executives of hospitals, IDNs (Integrated Delivery Networks), and clinics. His experience also includes working for three new start-ups in the healthcare IT solutions marketplace.
Bill’s work has focused over the years on providing software solutions that have a significant impact on the operational costs, as well as quality of care provided by a health care institution. Software applications have included clinician-targeted solutions, such as EMR (electronic medical records) software; enterprise applications, such as a comprehensive HIS (hospital information system) platform; and financial applications, such as A/R management and revenue cycle management systems.
Bill served in a variety of sales and management capacities with regional, national and international companies, including Thomson Healthcare (now Thomson Reuters), McKesson, Sequoia Group, Cerner, and Misys (now Allscripts). With these organizations, he was always recognized as one of the top sales producers or top managers, as supported by his recognition as the Number 1 National Sales Person of the Year for two of these companies.
Bill’s healthcare market experience has led him to develop a myriad of personal and business contacts within the industry. In addition to fellow ex-employees, he has also developed strong relationships within the healthcare solution consultant market. His consultative style of selling has served him well with customers, as well as with significant industry relationships.
Bill grew up in Illinois and graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree in business as a marketing major. He served as captain of EIU’s basketball team. His understanding and empathetic approach to people, as well as his fierce sense of competitiveness and desire to succeed have served Bill well in the field of sales and sales management.
Ed Leer
Chief Information Officer
Mr. Leer has most recently served as President of Profficcee, Inc., a Healthcare Service Bureau, whose services included technology, revenue cycle and practice management. With Profficcee, he has been the lead driver in providing consulting services to many hospitals and physician practices, including the following:
The Care Group (110 Cardiologists in IN); Riverview Hospital (IN); Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana; Associated Physicians & Surgeons (80 physician multi-specialty in IN); Methodist Sports Medicine (15 Orthopaedics in IN); Indiana Gynecologic Oncology (IN); Multicare Specialist (KY); American Health Network (200 physician multi-specialty in OH & IN); Carondelet Physician Services (KC); Alaska Spine Center (Anchorage); and other leading healthcare providers.
Mr. Leer has also served as Chair of the Indiana HIPAA Consortium (IHC), a group of leading Payers and Providers who coordinate their HIPAA efforts in order gain economy of scales and quality improvements over their individual efforts. Mr. Leer was also a panelist at the Fourth National HIPAA Summit in Washington DC and the Fifth National HIPAA Summit in Baltimore discussing the State’s compliance activities.
Previously, Mr. Leer was the Director of Healthcare Services for Verias LLC., an Indianapolis based company specializing in healthcare consulting and physician office outsourced services. Before starting Verias’ Healthcare practice, Mr. Leer was one of the four founding members of ONEX, Inc, an Information Technology Consulting company that grew to over 200 consultants within its first three years before being acquired in 2001 by Inrange Technologies.
Prior to ONEX, he served as CIO for Acordia Inc., a major insurance/brokerage firm, where his responsibilities for both health and P&C system decisions were critical to their corporation’s $10 billion business. Ed’s industry knowledge in health care and insurance enabled him to lead business process reengineering initiatives saving over $200 million across the corporation. Earlier in his career with Acordia’s parent company, Anthem, Ed served as Executive Director of Information Systems, responsible for all corporate technology ¬¬¬¬infrastructure functions, supporting over 17,000 nationwide employees and all electronic commerce functions.
In addition, Ed has 12 years experience with AT&T, including the roles of Regional Product Marketing Manager, Midwest Regional Technical Manager and Senior Technical Consultant. Ed’s education includes a B.S. in Accounting from Indiana University and a Computer Systems fellowship from MIT in a joint AT&T/MIT program.
Currently, Ed serves on the Board of Advisors for IU’s School of Nursing along with past Board appointment on Purdue’s school of Engineering and Technology at Indianapolis. He also co-chaired the technology committee for the Central Indiana Coalition to Reinvent Healthcare and was a member of Indiana Information Technology Association (INITA). Ed served as Senior Vice-Chair of the Heart Walk for the American Heart Association and a member of the Alzheimer Walk committee. He has served as a member of the International Standards Organization (ISO) User Advisory Council for Network Management, the Electronic Messaging Association’s X.400 committee, and the Personal Services Work Group committee.
Keith Siergiej
Chief Financial Officer
Keith is the Chief Financial Officer with 20 years of hands on experience. At VoCare, Keith leads the financial needs of the group and any acquisition or investment that requires review.
Keith’s 20 years of experience has incorporated many diverse experiences that add to the value at VoCare. With a focus on the Hospitality and Construction industry, Keith has been involved with the sale/purchase of a full service hotel as well as a new start-up company in the construction industry. Additional experience has come from the implementation of numerous computer systems and creation of policy/procedure manuals.
At VoCare, Keith has overall responsibility for the Accounting and Cash Management of the organization, as well as provides assistance in the review of potential acquisitions or investments. Keith works closely with VoCare’s other top managers and leaders by providing assistance that allows that individual to focus on their core areas of the business.
Keith is a graduate of Penn State University earning a B.S. Degree in Accounting and since earning a MBA in Accounting. Keith resides in New Palestine, Indiana, where he has been involved volunteering in the community with youth sports and the youth at church.
Alan Symons
Director of Finance
Alan Symons, President and C.E.O. of AGS Capital LLC, was born in Montreal, Canada, then moved to Toronto, Canada, in 1971. He has resided in Indianapolis, Indiana since 1995.
As one of the founders of the 100th federally incorporated insurance company in Canada's history, Alan has either led or participated in the purchase and sale of more than seven major insurance companies in Canada, the U.S. and Bermuda. Alan has successfully taken several companies public and managed major debt issue. He has led work-out teams that refinanced debt and operations, with substantial returns.
Prior to forming AGS Capital, Alan was Chief Executive Officer of an international insurance corporation and oversaw a staff of one thousand employees. During the course of his leadership, sales grew to over five hundred million dollars/year, with an earnings of over thirty million dollars.
Alan has achieved professional success outside the insurance industry, in 1982, Alan purchased Fluke Transport Ltd. in Hamilton Ontario, Canada. Under Alan's guidance, the company grew into a $20,000,000 trucking and 500,000 sq ft owned warehouse operation. He helped developed the company's memorable motto: "if it's on time it's a Fluke".
In 1986, Alan and his partner, Ron Foxcroft, an NCAA Big 10 Basketball referee, invented the famous Fox 40 Pealess Whistle. With sales in over 141 countries, Fox 40 Inc. is now the largest professional whistle manufacturer in the world.
Alan has invested in regional companies such as Monument Advisers, Inc., a prominent merchant bank, Gazelle fund a successful tech venture capital fund, and Trophy Golf Club, one of the premiere golf courses in Indiana. Alan has made several investments in ventures throughout Canada, the USA, and Mexico.
In 2002 Alan Started AGS Capital LLC here in Indianapolis, since then his company has bought or invested in numerous companies. Companies range from buying the very well known publishing business 'SAMS Publishing' to Superior Metal a large metal finishing company.
In recognition of his business expertise and accomplishments, Alan was honored by Ernst and Young as Entrepreneur of the Year. In addition to his business activities, Alan is a vital member of his community. He served as President and Director of the Columbia Club of Indianapolis twice, is a member of Meridian Hills Golf and Country Club in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Alan has been president of Montreal Curling club, President Lloyds of London NA Names, director of 404 action group and part of the team that settled a 2 billion pound payout to Names. He is a member of Lloyds.
Alan enjoys playing Golf, Squash, Tennis, Skiing, and Sailing. Alan is married to Terri, and is the proud father of four boys.
Sunny Lu
Director of Operations
Sunny Lu is the Director of Operations for VoCare and is responsible for operations, supply chain management and new program development. Sunny oversees supplier management and vendor relations in a complicated healthcare ecosystem.
Prior to joining VoCare, Sunny had over ten years of operations and general management experience in the industries of Customer Premise Equipment, Consumer Electronics, and Telecommunications; Areas of focus include concept design & process architecture, turnaround management, change management, continuous improvement and benchmarking, and business development/negotiations.
She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and has had several speaking engagements with the World Trade Organization and Shanghai University on China’s global opportunity to expand in business process outsourcing and reverse logistics.
Lu earned a Bachelor of Liberal Arts from Purdue where she was a Hansard Scholar (London School of Economics) and an M.B.A. from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.
Steve Wallace
Director of Wireless Operations
Steve was Chief of the NAF Central Accounting Office, US Army Missile Command, in Huntsville. In addition to the financial responsibilities for 23 funds, he automated the accounting and control processes as well as some traditional applications (inventory, billing, fixed assets, etc.). The automation projects were a great success and were adopted at other Army commands. The projects led to an Army Commendation Medal and to his being a professional hire for IBM when he left the Army.
Steve has worked as an independent telecommunications consultant with over 25 years experience in information technology and telecom, working with such companies as IBM, LDS iAmerica, U.S. Unwired, BellSouth, and CenturyTel in a variety of management positions. His background includes sales, engineering, and marketing responsibilities in the diverse environments of ISP, IXC, CLEC, RBOC, and ILEC.
Steve was Director of Sales for iAmerica, a regional ISP. When iAmerica became a product line within LDS, he was Product Manager and grew the company into a national presence before it was purchased by Intermedia. At U.S. Unwired, he was one of the first hires involved in the start-up of the CLEC product line that later spun off as Xspedius and was finally acquired by Time Warner Communications. His responsibilities evolved from engineering to Agent/ISP Manager.
At CenturyTel, Steve was Senior Analyst for the wireless, satellite broadcasting, and security product lines. He was deeply involved in the operation of CenturyTel’s MVNO as well as Interim Product Manager for DBS.
As owner of SW&A Consulting, Steve has worked with wireless carriers and several MVNOs. For CMI, Steve will coordinate the operational facets of the wireless side of the products and the interfaces between the MVNE and the company.
Patrick Malloy
Investor Relations
Patrick's legal background and practical experience in the financial and policy fields ideally situate him to be an asset to the VoCare team. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, BA in History and Public Policy. Patrick was awarded the Lyman Fellowship Grant through the Hesburgh Program and was active in entrepreneurship programs in the Gigot Center at the Mendoza College of Business. Additionally, he also worked for three years in the Notre Dame Investment Office. He also earned a JD from the Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis.
Upon completion of his undergraduate work, Patrick was accepted into a pre-law school program at the Wall St. law firm of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft. At Cadwalader, Patrick was staffed in the Global Finance group, where he worked on distressed debt trading and syndicated lending deals. It was a busy desk, with his group managing 80-100 trades at any given time, which consisted of communicating with clients, institutional investors and administrative agents regarding closing mechanics, and with opposing counsel regarding draft and upstream documentation.
While in law school, Patrick served as legal intern for both Dant Advocacy and the Indiana Bankers Association. At Dant Advocacy, Patrick worked on regulatory and compliance issues, including extensive work with Utility legislation. With the IBA, Patrick was instrumental in the launching of the IBA's Political Action Committee, and also authored study reports on issues affecting Indiana's financial industries, including mortgage broker restrictions and industrial loan companies.
Following law school, Patrick worked with a few Indianapolis based start-ups, primarily managing capital procurement initiatives. In this capacity, he: authored business plans, executive summaries and investor presentations; created financial models and projections, along with detailed cost structures for new ventures; and served as liaison between the companies and investment groups. He also contributed to many different strategic growth initiatives at these companies, including: initiating in/out licensing opportunities for pharmaceutical products in international markets; initiating MBE certification in pursuit of government/corporate contracts; conducting full internal audits of business and operational practices, complete with recommendations to improve efficiency and productivity; working to identify relevant policy and regulatory issues that affected the companies; and engaging strategic partners to further company’s interests and objectives.
In his current role as VP Fund Mgt at AGS Capital, Patrick's primary responsibilities are to manage portfolio investments and seek out new venture/private equity investment opportunities. AGS specializes in buyout opportunities below the middle market, and also makes strategic, early stage investments.
